A House to Die In

Commissioned by Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard, A House to Die In has been in the works since 2011. The sculpted dwelling is modeled after the drawings of Melgaard and has been realized through sketches and 3D models. Clad in burnt oak, the piece features a crystal-like structure resting on white pillars shaped like animals. Below, a shallow pound creates the illusion that the house is floating on water. On the interior, rooms take an unconventional approach to function with a dining room that also acts as a swimming pool and a workspace that is also a spa. The residence is controversially intended for the former estate of expressionist painter Edvard Munch in Norway.
