Debuted in heavily-disguised form last year, the all-new 2020 Defender has reached a key milestone: 1.2 million kilometers of on- and off-road testing. Land Rover’s reboot retains a boxy silhouette, with a curved front end that ties it to the rest of the family. Land Rover isn’t skimping on the Defender’s legendary off-road capability, with the company boasting that it will be their toughest model yet — quite a claim considering their history. Able to operate in temperatures from -40 to 120 degrees and at altitudes above 13,000 feet, the prototype will now be put to work towing, wading, and carrying supplies at the Borana Conservancy in Kenya to support vital conservation work. A full reveal will come later this year, with the production version hitting American shores in 2020. It’s going to be a long wait.
