Birch Park House | Uncrate

Overlooking the water on the coast of Auckland, Matter Architects brings together Chilean and Japanese design to create a seaside escape for a multi-generational family. The Birch Park House is comprised of a series of connected pavilions, clad in timber treated with the traditional Japanese method of Shou Sugi Ban and hand-made Petersen bricks. On the interior, a palette of concrete and wood run throughout to create a contemporary setting for green marble counters, smoked timber cabinetry, and floating paper lanterns. While the upper level is afforded expansive views over the shoreline, ground floor living spaces flow freely to the outdoors, expanding the internal footprint while taking advantage of the waterfront location.
