Located in a remote parish in Portugal, the House in Parada integrates itself into the natural landscape. Its simple silhouette consists of two stories made from board-formed concrete. Although clean, and minimal, the contemporary dwelling becomes a part of the pastoral setting by burrowing itself into its hillside plot. Internally, exposed concrete and natural gray ataíja stone dominate the living spaces while rich wood millwork adds a warm contrast to the monolithic palette. To connect the interior to the outdoors, floor-to-ceiling windows framed in black aluminum wrap around the main level affording expansive views of the surrounding fields. At the same time, sliding doors expand rooms out to a poolside terrace overlooking the verdant scenery.
