Beating the record of a prior Super Mario Bros. cartridge sold last year, this sealed copy of the iconic 1985 title has set the record as the most expensive video game ever sold. Graded at a 9.4 in its original packaging, this particular example is one of just four early variants to have a cardboard hang tab. Each of the four had a production run of just a few months. As one of the rarest examples of one of the most important games of all time, preserved in nearly perfect condition, it’s a collector’s dream, as evidenced by the price it commanded.
