The Honda Prologue Won’t Drive Any Differently From The Chevrolet Blazer EV

Honda’s engineers simply tweaked the Prologue’s design and not much else

Honda and General Motors announced in 2020 that the two companies are collaborating on their future electric vehicle (EV) development plans. One of the first cars from this partnership is the Chevrolet Blazer EV, which will serve as one of the brand’s most affordable compact crossover EVs. On the other end of the partnership is the recently-unveiled Honda Prologue. Thus, you might expect this Honda crossover EV to, well, drive like a Honda. But alas, that won’t be the case.

A Honda That Probably Won’t Drive Like A Honda

Honda CEO, President, and Executive Director Toshihiro Mibe and Senior Managing Executive Officer Shinji Aoyama recently held a media round table wherein the most frequently-talked topic was the Ultium platform. Speaking to Motor1, Aoyama-san admits that the driving experience of the Prologue would probably be similar to the Blazer EV. “We are limited due to the base architecture,” he said. “To differentiate [them] in terms of performance will be difficult.”

GM Fundamentals, Honda Reliability?

Mibe-san, however, was confident that while the Prologue will mirror the driving dynamics of some GM crossovers based on the Ultium platform, it’ll still feel like a Honda in other aspects, such as its design. The Prologue and Blazer EV may share the same architecture, but the design of the two electric crossovers is distinct. Whereas the Blazer EV looks very radical and sporty, the Prologue is cleaner – albeit more anonymous.

That’s the same case with both vehicles’ interiors. The Honda follows in the footsteps of their latest models that have a minimalist layout. The Prologue also draws inspiration from the adorable Honda e, an electric hatch that isn’t sold in North America. It’ll even feature the same software as the Honda e’s infotainment system, making the Prologue feel more distinct compared to the brand’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models.

It must be noted, however, that parts sharing from the two brands are inevitable. This is already clearly seen with both models’ steering wheels and interior door handles. After all, there’s only so much differentiation that the two brands could do if their cars share the same vehicle architecture.

The Honda Prologue will arrive in dealers by 2024. Pricing and even full specifications have not yet been announced. The only detail that was revealed, so far, is the Prologue will come with all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option.
