Dalaro House | Uncrate

Olson Kundig takes its signature aesthetic to Sweden with the Dalaro House. Embedded into the rocky coastline, the summer home features the studio’s classic clean lines and industrial mix of concrete and steel. Cement terraces blend into the existing boulders. while pine siding nods to the residence’s Scandinavian vernacular. Internally, the great room is the centerpiece of the interior. Its soaring ceilings allow for expansive glazing, affording panoramic views of the sea. An open kitchen and dining area are flanked by glass walls, providing coastal vistas on one side and the landscape on the other. Oak floors and ceilings warm the living spaces, and celestial windows bring in natural light. On the west end, a corner window is oriented to frame views of the historic Strindberg Cottage, the former retreat of Swedish writer and painter Johan August Strindberg.
