2025 Porsche Macan EV Leaked Ahead Of Its Debut, Revealing A Familiar Yet Sleeker Design

The next-generation 2025 Porsche Macan is about to make its public debut, but apparently, a few folks have managed to leak the photos of the new Macan on the Porsche EV Forum website before its debut, which is less than a day away. For now, though, here’s the exterior of the next-generation Macan, and there are plenty of pleasant surprises to see.

Ahead of its debut on the 25th of January, 2024, Porsche has previewed the all-electric Macan in design sketches.

A Familiar But Sleeker Look

Actually, the word “surprise” probably isn’t apt since Porsche is known to give their cars an evolutionary redesign. This means that it doesn’t stray away much from the Macan formula we’ve gotten used to over the years and therefore won’t elicit any surprises. However, we also must mention that the new generation Macan has already been confirmed to be a fully electric vehicle (EV).

This is evident with the lack of functional vents that are needed to cool an engine. In its place is an evolutionary redesign that looks familiar yet is very modern and clean. Porsche, as usual, doesn’t reinvent its design for its vehicles as the company tries to maintain a brand identity across its model range. Also, being an EV, the Macan’s proportions have been revised to take advantage of the air as much as possible. The resulting shape looks sleeker and more coupe-like than the internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered Macan.

It is also worth talking about the white Macan EV in these leaked photos because it looks the sportier of the two models on display. That’s because the white model is the range-topping Turbo variant (even if it doesn’t come with a turbo like the Taycan). The sportier front and rear bumper, bigger wheels, and slightly lower stance are all signs that there’s much more than just looks that make this Macan EV variant special.

A New, Bespoke EV Platform

What’s also special are the technical details that have already been confirmed by Porsche for the Macan EV. Earlier this month, Porsche already confirmed that the Macan EV will be the first model to ride on the company’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform that the upcoming Audi Q6 will also utilize. The bespoke EV platform enables packaging advantages that take advantage of the removal of the ICE drivetrain.

Porsche is proud to highlight that the Macan EV combines the brand’s design DNA and aerodynamic efficiency. They were able to achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd (down from 0.35 Cd in the ICE-powered Macan) thanks to its sleek shape, but also through the use of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). PAA includes clever stuff like the extending rear spoiler, active cooling flaps, just to name a few. This is combined with a flat and closed underbody and innovations like flexible fairings to ensure low air resistance when rebounding.

These aerodynamic applications also enable the Macan EV to have a claimed range of more than 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Porsche also revealed a few delicious powertrain details, though, of course, the specific numbers will be revealed in a few hours from now. Porsche promises an overboost power of more than 450 kW (more than 603 horsepower) and more than 1,000 Nm of torque (more than 737 pound-feet), which are impressive numbers, to say the least.

Old Dog, New Tricks

Also impressive are the expected charge times. Like the Taycan, the Macan EV will use an 800-volt architecture, but it does come with a clever new trick. The DC charging capacity for the new Macan EV is up to 270 kW, but the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 22 minutes at 400-volt charging stations. How? This has been made possible thanks to a high-voltage switch in the battery that enables bank charging.

What this means is that the 800-volt battery is effectively split into two 400-volt batteries, which, according to Porsche, enables efficient charging without an additional high-voltage booster, at up to 150 kW. Finally, as for AC charging, the Macan EV can accept up to 11 kW, though this is much lower than the 22 kW AC that cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can accept.

Of course, as with every Porsche, you can expect top-notch driving dynamics out of this electric crossover. The Macan EV has been subjected to the toughest of road conditions. To test all the car’s active electronics and driving systems, the Macan EV has been driven over various terrain and weather scenarios. Porsche says that the camouflaged prototypes of the all-electric Macan have completed more than 3.5 million test kilometers on test tracks and public roads.
